I'm Looking to buy a used H&R sport setup model 29513 made for standard 996 coupe. Catalog says use model 29513-2 for a Targa/Cab chassis.

Called H&R and got a nice lady on the phone, but she wouldn't really answer my question, other than standard answer of we recommend 29513-2.

What would be the differences other than -2  ? 150# weight difference in models. Will it fit rear shock/tower the same ? uses same shock so I'm thinking yes.

I'm thinking it's the rear weight difference of the Targa/Cab, but should work /fit just the same.

Anyone has this knowledge?

I too decided to try a set of aftermarket lowering springs. I chose Eiboch brand as they appeared to be somewhat softer than H&Rs. Porsche furnishes different rear springs for different weight models but aftermarket springs seem to come in as one fits all. Eiboch springs lowed the front almost the one inch I was looking for but as my wife’s car is a heavier Mark 2, Cab with Tipronic, the rear came down much more.

Not only does a tail heavy 996 look wrong, it bottoms its exhaust tips on innocent looking swales and ramps. Now I’ve got to do it all over again with the coil overs I should have chosen in the first place.

The H&R's come in different models depending on coupe or cab / Targa .  Personally I think they are a better spring than the Eibach's as a lot of factory race cars used them.

You may be able to get a spacer for the bottom of the spring (where it sits on the perch) to get you back up to "level"... FWIW I put the H&R's (with Bilstein B8's) on my C4 and although it's a little stiffer than my stock suspension, the "ride" is so much smoother. The stock sus. was so shot that bumps, cracks etc. were super harsh - no so with the new shocks/struts/springs - even though they're quite a bit stiffer. I also put the H&R heavy duty adjustable sway bars on it and it really handles amazingly.

I bought a used set of Techarts for my 996 Cab that were intended for a coupe.  Techart also lists a different number for coupe vs. cab.  I found some installation info on line that suggested to me that the only difference is either a thicker or double spacer for the rear shock to raise the rear ride height slightly to compensate for the extra weight.  I had H&Rs on previously and measuring them against the Techart springs for comparison they are essentially the same spring in free length, number of coils and diameter of coils.

If anything, the Techarts sit a little lower in the front than the H&Rs did, i.e. too low to be practical on my roads.  I had a pair of spacers made to replace the upper part of the front assembly but have not yet installed them.  I am only looking for another 1/2" in ride height in the front or the front may start to look higher than the rear.

As noted above, I wish I had just gone straight to coilovers and been able to adjust ride height for taste and practicality.

On the topic of going to coilovers...

Has anyone used the BC Racing BR Series Coilovers? Seem like a bargain for getting all the adjustment you need to get the right ride height.
