Need some help finding a part number, and for the matter, the name of the part! The picture just shows the passengers side of a piece that surrounds the dashboard (I think its all one part, anyway). It's between the windshield and the dash. Does anyone know what this part is called and what the part number may be? This is for 2001 996 Carrera.

I've found that now. It's part number 996-552-989-02-VRK, and costs around $1500 to $1800. Won't be buying the any time soon.

And I thought that was the Self-Activating Photon Torpedo Guidance and Tractor-Beam Deflector Inflator Mechanism Shield.

The one in the photo looks pretty good to me.

Wow on the price tag.  Good thought.

Haha, nice! Well, it has several scratches that don't show up that great in the photo. But you can see the big one right there where it meet the vent trim. The cheapest price was at two places, Gaudin Porsche and Paramount Automotive, for $1,575.61. As usual, the highest price was at Pelican, for $1,928. Interestingly, these are all over eBay ranging in price from $20 to $60 with free shipping. I guess I know where I'm buying this part!

You can probably get it redyed for about $100. I just had the interior of my 996 redyed including the center console and it came out great.

So, a little but of good news! As it turns out, mine aren't leather—thank God! Those are insanely priced. Mine are some sort of soft touch plastic, the actual part numbers are as follows:

Driver Side:  996-552-185-04-A03
Passenger Side:  996-552-186-04-A03

Those only run about $180 each from my local dealer. However, I can find these for dirt cheap on eBay. Prices range from $20 to $60. So happy about that!
