Hey guys - long time no see (which means 10+ years of bulletproof ownership!)

02 C2

both my my keys fobs have given up the ghost

i am ok with manual locking but when I turn the key to lock from outside only the driver door locks

if I am inside the car and press the lock switch both doors lock

no beeps / no codes

im sure there's a way to program the car to lock and unlock both doors when I manually lock with the key

can someone point me in the right direction? Loren ?

Possibly the conecting link between the lock assembly and the door handle: check the other sites, searching door locks, etc.

If both doors lock and unlock with the dash button then your mechanics are likely good.

I do not recall a way to have a manual key turn unlock both doors. These early cars did not have programming options.

Two possible solutions for the key fobs.

1. Open them up and replace what it likely a worn out button. Someone wrote this up for Boxster keys a while ago.

2. Buy one of the nice new Design key fobs and transfer your blade and transponder pill to the new key. No programming required.

Both doors should lock with the key.  Are you sure the passenger door isn't locking and then immediately unlocking?  That would indicate a faulty microswitch in the passenger door lock assembly.  If that is the case, then try the emergency locking procedure.  Turn the key to the lock position and back to centre three times in quick succession.

I will try the emergency procedure again today - turning twice was definitely ineffective - will try 3x

im attaching a photo- is the pill the circled part? Can I transfer to 997 key without transferring the circuit board and just the pill? Does dealer need to program and charge me $400?

Ok so to be clear w regard to the design key- the pill AND the circuit board would need to be ported?

So if the circuit board isn't transmitting anymore for whatever reason - I'm off to the dealer for a new reprogrammed key correct ?

Did triple locking work?  If it didn't, I think you might have a problem with the driver's door lock.  When you turn the key in the lock it physically locks the driver's side.  At the same time it operates a microswitch, which sends a signal to the alarm unit to lock the passenger side.  If the switch is broken it won't arm the system or lock the passenger side.

Yes, you will need to go to the dealer or a good independent Porsche specialist to program a new key head.

You likely have two separate issues. 1. The key fob stopped working - this is very common and is likely caused by bad/broken solder connections on the PC board.  This is fixable and there is a DIY on this site. 2. You probably have a problem with your driver's side door latch. This is the more expensive of the two problems. A door latch will cost around $250 for the part.  The replacement DIY isn't too bad but I would try to better diagnose the problem before throwing money at it.
