Stereo Cayenne 04S

Hi I would like to change the stereo of my Cayenne S 04. The current OEM one it doesn't even have AUX, or Bluetooth...

Do you recommend me to upgrade to a better OEM one or you know some aftermarket that fits really well.

I just put an aftermarket Seicane Chinese Android head unit in my 09. It was VERY easy to install and looks remarkably stock. The quality of the unit itself is a little suspect and it's already started doing some strange things. But for $600 and about 20 minutes to install, I can't complain.

I have been thinking about the Seicane head unit. There is also the Dynavin unit that is also a android head unit. Both are plug and play.

What problems are you experiencing?

Ok full disclosure, I've only had this thing installed for 5 days and haven't read the operating manual yet. So to be fair it could all be user error.

The sound via Bluetooth A2DP is terrible. Teeters are making a metallic sound and generally distorted. However, if I connect my iPhone via "MirrorLink" which Seicane calls "EZ Connect" the sound is perfect - MUCH better than the factory unit.

The internal navigation app take a really long time (5-10 min) to figure out the route. Not sure if that's because it doesn't have an internet connect or what exactly but it sucks. Again, screen mirroring completely solves this problem by displaying Google Maps or Waze from my iPhone onto the screen.

Also - and do think this is user error - my unit forgets all my settings every time it shuts down, i.e. I turn the car off. It does remember WiFi and Bluetooth connections but it doesn't seem to like to connect to them without manual intervention. So I have to do this kabuki dance every time I get in the car to connect my iPhone via tethered WiFi, mirror the screen, and then launch Google Maps, Pandora or whatever else. Not exactly what I had in mind when I bought this thing. But it is a major improvement over the OEM unit.

Did you have steering wheel multi function controls and do they still work with the after market unit?

 

My 2006 CTTS has an OEM AUX socket under the center arm rest. I used an extension audio cable run back to the dashboard and then plug in a Bluetooth head set (called a i-Tech R35 Clip) to the aux cable. The clip has the microphone and is mounted just to the right side of the steering wheel on the dash.

 

Then my phone connects to the Clip and I can stream it track calls through Chanel 0 of the radio (which is the AUX station). It's not seamless, but a cheap workable option.

 

If the after market unit comes with the CAN BUS interface to allow multi function controls to still work then that could be a way to go.

 

Mine R35 is an old model but I just did a search on eBay and found this newer model that is the same. Item number: 222405835357 any similar Bluetooth device that allows the head set to plug in to it should work.

Yes, the Seicane unit came with a CAN BUS adapter and the steering wheel controls worked as soon as I connected it. The unit also ships with an app that allows you to custom map the steering wheel buttons, but as I said mine all mapped properly out of the box.

Now I'm not sure about the options. Is it my spare wheel amplifier optical? The price of the stereo goes from 200$ to the roof with the options.

I thought that most of these options are on my iPhone already, why I want a gps or 3g,...?

If you try to order any other unit from the site for a Porsche Cayenne, they'll redirect you to this one.  So the other units are basically there entertainment purposes only as near as I can tell.  You only need the "Support 2003-2011 Year Original car's Optical Fiber Amplifier" option if you have the Bose system.  If you don't have the Bose system, you don't need it.  This option gives you the MOST decoder required to connect to the fiber-optic ring that the amp is on.

 

The only option I ordered was the ODB II adapter.  The unit comes pre-loaded with the Torque app and it does work quite well.  A little disappointed with the variety of read outs it gives.  Would've liked to have fuel pressure in there to diagnose a rough idle I'm currently suffering but not sure that's even available via ODB II.  Aside from that, feedback on the 3G adapter is not positive, don't think I need live TV while driving or DAB+ or any of the video options.  

 

I'm basically using this thing as a Car Play-like dumb display for my iPhone and for that it works fine.

How did you connect the MOST adapter.  There are three wires, red, yellow, and black.  Batt+, Acc, and ground.  I am not good with wires (read electrical stuff).  Any suggestion where to connect these to?  The unit is powering up so the Canbus adapter is getting power.
