991 Style Projector LED Headlights for 997 - Product Tear Down and Review - Pic Heavy


After much deliberation I decided to try out the aftermarket 991 LED style headlights for the 997. These lights are available from many sources online around the world. It seems they are all made by the same manufacturer although I cannot verify this 100%. It appears the primary distributor for these in the US is Spyder Auto, who have unfortunately been rather uncooperative in dealing with the issues described below which were conveyed to them about a month back. Be aware if two points:

 

  1. Replacement parts are often difficult if not impossible to source for many aftermarket lights.  As a result, the installation of aftermarket lights are typically considered a "deduct" item during a PPI.
  2. Many states now require certified state inspection stations to verify all exterior lighting on vehicles are DOT approved.  Failure to do so can result in the station losing their certification.  As a result, we have to fail any vehicle that unapproved lights installed.  In my state, this means any light that cannot be visually verified as a factory item.
