Hey guys!  I just bought my first Porsche (2003 996 cab tip-tronic), and it's nice to meet everybody!  I've been hearing this strange noise coming from the engine on idle.  Almost like a high-pitch chirp/cricket?  Any idea what this could be?  Posting 2 videos (with lid closed and lid opened).  Thanks so much!

good listening.

evap valve, yes.

check to be sure the sound you're hearing does not radically change.

and listen for a high-pitched whistle that would mean the idler puller near the alternator is going out.

Actually now listening to the clips on my laptop, I'm not as sure. Sorry i watched it before using my cellphone.

One way to check is to disconnect that valve while the engine is running and see if the noise goes away.

The valve is here in this post and there's an electrical connector right behind it on it's right.

You should check the evap canister purge valve AND all of the idler pulleys.  Sounds to me more like an idler pulley or maybe the alternator or water pump.

I have that same noise. Changed all the pulleys. Still there. Next is the AC compressor.

Maybe it's because your oil cap is on upside down. [emoji23]

after re-listening it does kind of sounds like air escaping. Maybe a pressure test / smoke test of the intake....5 psi or so with a rubber clove on the intake....
