Headlight washer nozzle replacement

I have a 2001 C 4 and the headlight washer nozzle has been leaking. As per Loren instructions I checked the washer pump as well as the line but no leak. It was only on the nozzle that was leaking. I went to the dealer to have it check and they said I have to replace the nozzle. Parts price is ok but the labor will cost an arm and a leg, so I throw the question to you gus, how to replace the Right Headlight washer Nozzle. Thanks in advance.

Mine is a 2000 C2 Cabrio, and one of the two driver side washer jets is missing. The Porsche dealer sais that the entire unit has to be replaced (both jets and the base). The part is $122 and according to him the bumper might have to come off to replace the unit.... $$$ labor.

Could you please let me know if this is really what it takes to replace this little plastic jet? I've seen these missing on several 996 while we were shopping for ours.

I'd appreciate any help.

The part number for the nozzles for a MY00 car are:

996.628.333.00 Left Nozzle -- retail $102.83 (as of January 2006)

996.628.334.00 Right Nozzle -- retail $102.83 (as of January 2006)

Prices above are list prices so they are charging you more than MSRP. Try Sunset Imports (Porsche Parts at Dealer cost) for better prices.

The bumper should not need to come off - even if it did it is a 20 minute job at most.

Here is the procedure from the service manual:

Removal

1. Remove main headlights (see owners manual).

2. Remove spray nozzle for headlight cleaning system on the left side.

3. Undo M6 hexagon nut from the spray nozzle holder.

4. Separate plug-in coupling and take out the spray nozzle.

5. Loosen hose clamp and pull hose off the spray nozzle.

Note: A stuck hose can be pulled off more easily if it is heated with a hot-air gun.

6. Remove spray nozzle for headlight cleaning system on the right side.

7. Undo M6 hexagon nut from the spray nozzle holder and lift the spray nozzle out.

8. Loosen hose clamp and pull hose off the spray nozzle.

Installation

1. Push hose as far as it will go onto the new spray nozzle and fasten the hose clamp.

2. Reinstall new spray nozzle with holder in the same position. Tightening torque of the M6 hexagon nut 5 Nm (3.5 ftlb.)

3. Push plug-in coupling to lock with an audible click, then check the locking with a slight pull.

4. Install main headlight and check position of the spray nozzle in the cover trim. Remove the main headlight again and centre the spray nozzle if necessary.

5. Install main headlight, check it and perform a function test.

... after reading the owners manual on headlight removal and doing so, I found that the washer unit is accessible once the headlight is removed.

The remaining question is if the entire unit really has to be replaced and if so, is there a way to save $$. I noticed the ad for parts at dealer prices on the renntech site, but I live in WA, so according to the disclaimer I can't use that shop.

Suggestions?

I recently, yesterday, noticed one of the pair of washer nozzles on the passenger side of my 01 C4 was gone.  I blame the guys who did my car inspection because it was not missing before then.  Personally, I don't care if it has a washer or not since I have never used it and don't see using the system any time soon if ever.  I googled just a replacement nozzle head and figured they were commonly lost and relatively inexpensive.  It turned out that everyone wants to sell you the ENTIRE unit for around $220 and some state the bumper must be removed to replace.  That sounded stupid to me on the order of replacing your entire lawn irrigation system every time I ran over a sprinkler head with the lawn mower.

 

I have a 3D printer and after doing a design that at least in theory should allow water to be forced through it, i printed out a replacement nozzle head.  It took me 3 design tries to get just the right dimension but I finally had a snug fitting visually idential copy of the lost nozzle.  I tried to design it at least somewhat functional but like I said I don't really care if it works or not, just that it covers up the obvious hole where it used to sit.

 

The problem I encountered was the piece is tiny and I was reaching the resolution limit of my printer a Makerbot 2.  This caused problems with the sphere design having a shell to thin to print correctly.  I may later redisign the top sphere part and give it a thicker shell or simply forgo the sphere design and make it an angled tube instead.
