My 4S seems to ride rough on these less than idea midwestern streets. I have owned sports cars most of my life so I realize they usually are somewhat taunt. I believe the suspension to be stock and original. Original 18" Turbo Twists solid spoke wheels with recommended size Bridgestone Potenza SO2-A that have less than 2k miles on them. I backed off the air pressures by 2# front and 4# rear based on comments from this forum. Looking for suggestions for winter-time projects that may address the stiff ride, if not normal. This car does not see a race track nor cones set-up in parking lots. It is just my grocery getter and fair weather cruiser. There are no unusual/noticeable noises other than the occasional thump from the right rear over heavy bumps. I do have a set of OEM engine mounts which I plan to install this winter even though exhaust pipe extensions seem high in body outlets and fairly even.

 

Suggestions appreciated

Mileage may be a factor. I've got 80k on my '03 and have the same issue. Shocks are probably expired and plan to replace in the spring.

I bought it in the Spring with 76k and have used it a my DD with no track or cones in my future.  It handles well on the off ramps and twisty roads but the ride is a bit harsh at times.  Oddly enough, I noticed that mine has gotten worse the warmer it got.  

 

This will hopefully allow me to lower it a bit with new springs and shocks in the spring; but don't tell my wife.  :wink:

I know what you are talking about wildbilly32.The State of California where I live, is strapped for road maintenance funds and at least on the fun two lane roads, is patching instead of repaving. This is shaking rattles in my 02 Cab and generating harsh ride complaints from my wife. Lowering the tire pressure helps a bit but in my case, new Bilsteins while renewing the handling but didn’t seem to make much difference in the ride.

I’ve been thinking about coil-overs because I feel the 996 looks better at the European ride height or a little less. Maybe those with adjustable dampening can be set to cope with our worn our paving.
