991 Carrera 2013 - plain version

Hi guys,

kinda a stupid question I guess. So I've been offered a 991 (370bhp) from 2013 with PDK but without PSE, Chrono Sport, Parking camera etc. and basically just a plain version.

is it still a fun and good car? I saw some very variable opinions on the Internet. mostly - don't buy a 991 without Chrono and PSE...

I was looking for a sports car to have something more fun than my boring family cars. It is still more than I wanted to spent but... a really nice price for a Carrera with less than 60k km driven, interior and exterior in a brilliant shape, trusted source...

BTW. i was never ever driving a car with more than 200 bhp, never had a sports car. i have no comparison that's why I am asking this stupid question . don't be to harsh.

I rented a base 991 before buying my 991S. I was amazed as how fast the base was. And depending on where you drive it, it may be enough for you. I drive my car on the mountains near my home and 400Hp sometimes is too much for curvy roads, with tight bends and narrow sections, but I manage. The one I rented was from Hertz and it was a bit of fun. I say go for it if it is a good deal.

the deal for me is really good as I am going to exchange it for one of my products (I produce saws for wood industry). So the cost for me is ca. 40k $ (+ my labor time, service etc). from what I saw on Internet offers that's a nice deal.

Still if the Base version is not good I would simply not make this deal and sell my product as usual.

I have a 2015 GTS that has all the toys, and I'll share this with you, a base 911 is more fun and a better sports car than 99 percent of the other stuff on the road. Most important is this....do you like it and does it make you feel good when you drive it? If the answer is yes, go for it. No one will ask you why.....

My coworker got a loaner 991 Black Edition coupe. Similar to the car you are looking, with black paint and seats, except it had sport chrono (which can be retrofitted for $900).

It was a very nice vehicle and more than fast enough for use on public roads. You will be VERY happy with this given your auto ownership history .

This is basically a no-risk purchase. Either you get a screaming deal on a car that you love or sell it and a nice make profit. You could drive this thing for a year and come out ahead. Not many people get the opportunity to get paid to drive a 911!

If I could buy a perfectly good 991 for $40K wouldn't think twice. Another option is make the trade then sell it, put that money towards a 997.2 GTS. They were well-equipped and have 408 HP. Gotta remember the "base" 991 is more powerful than a 997.1 Carrera S while weighing less.

That said if you get in a loaded 991 GTS/GT3/Turbo & drive it all day/week/month and then get in a lightly-optioned Carrera you will probably be disappointed. Opposite situation if you come from a base 997.1. It's all relative! Most auto journalists are jaded as are some forum-goers. Check out these videos:) it's not a BMW 320i vs M4 situation.

The 991 is an awesome car. I hear great things about the 3.4 9A1 motor. I have 37,000 miles on my 2014 C2S with PowerKit (430 HP).

I own a base 2013. It's fantastic. Yes a tad lower on torque than the S but torquey enough to slide in 2nd gear - good enough for me. I drove both and found the base engine more eager to rev, the S more powerful down low but slightly lazier. Could have been different options enabled at the time, so don't quot eme on this - just saying base is a ton of fun !  Sports mode can be added, SPE (exhasut) can be added.  Base is 350 hp BTW, not 370. I prefer stick shift on a sports car for involvement but the PDK is slightly faster...

That is because we place a high value on civility and decorum on RennTech, we simply do not allow "harsh" to get started........................

I'm going to bump this, with a slightly different question: I am looking at moving from a 2004 C4S Cab (996, 86k miles, manual, Bose) to a 2012 C Cab (12k miles, manual, sport chrono).

 

I've really liked the C4S, but it is getting long in the tooth and expensive to maintain.  Specifically regarding handling -- and handling on wet roads -- how much of a change will this be.  Not worried about raw BHP, not worried about PSE.  A little worried about no upgraded sound system.  Any opinions (other than the above)?  The other option is to continue looking for a manual 997.2 C4S Cab with a manual, which are rare and expensive.
