I have a 911 Carrera 4 Manual 996 convertible, 2002 model. Its been driving alright until recently that it stalled just about stopping point behind traffic lights, tried to re start the engine but it wouldn't and panic started to build up as other cars were behind me, after a few more efforts I got it going! It happened about 3 times, once was in petrol station and after filling up the tank, then had difficulty start it up.

Anyone else has experienced similar problem? Is it due to quick clutch release and starting it up without pressing the accelerator pedal, as I don't push on it, in case it floods?

I have also experienced only couple of times that whilst I was on 3rd gear, and perhaps going slightly slower than the gear specify and the car had a quick kick to it! Strange but was very occasional. Could it be due to slower speed?

I would be ever so grateful having good constructive feed back please.

Many thanks.

Have you changed your Cam position sensor? The traffic light failure to start and then start sound similar to those symptoms.

Usually the cam position sensor starts getting flaky causing failure to run and then after some time (short or long dependent on temp) it will start fine.

Just an idea....

Hi,

Thanks for your reply and comment, greatly appreciated. Would you kindly please expand on this Cam Position Sensor you mentioned as I am rather novice about it! So sorry......

Thanks

Cam position sensor will make it run poorly but won't keep it from starting. The crank position sensor will keep,it from starting.

Since yours is e-gas, you may want to try doing the throttle adaptation first. Put the key in the last position before crank and leave it there for 60s with your foot off the gas pedal. Then turn key to OFF position and wait for 10s and you're done. Have you scanned the car for codes with a Porsche scanner such as Durametric?
