Hey Folks,

 

New to the forum - just joined - so I hope this is in the right place. This is all in reference to a 2013 Cayenne GTS. I've got three questions I hope someone can help clarify.

  • First, I've been reading a bit about the "cut off" between 25-50mph (these numbers fluctuate depending on which forum you are in) regardless of if the PSE is turned on. Is this something that is true? I'm pretty sure I can hear this cut off, but ever since I read about it, I can't tell if it's legitimate or just in my head (Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon type scenario) This post talks about how to remove that by bypassing a diode: http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/86-remove-pse-cutout-in-2-minutes-no-tools-required/ If all is true, anyone have any resource on how to finagle this diode on the Cayenne? Where is this diode/relay? Does this mod work for the Cayenne?

  • Second, it looks to be about 600TU to install the PSE if you don't have it, but 150 TU to install just the button (model depending). They didn't put the selector button in until 2014, so, does anyone know if you can have it wired in to the 2013? I'd rather look like an idiot here before going to the dealer.

  • Third, does anyone have or know of a reputable place to get the full factory manual for the car?

Welcome to RennTech.

 

Start with the last, first; Porsche stopped publishing service manuals in 2004.  Currently, the only two legitimate ways to get access is either with a TSI subscription (Porsche's online technical service), or by leasing a legitimate PIWIS III.

 

All Porsches equipped with PSE have to comply with EU, and in particular, Swiss dB limits at certain speeds, typically those driven through residential neighborhoods.  This is controlled by the electronics package that is installed in the factory PSE systems.  By default, if the vacuum source and electronics are not connected, the PSE goes into the "loud" position all the time.  The procedure you cited is the DIY to defeat the complete factory system, and is not necessary if you simply do not install the electronics and do not connect the vacuum lines.

I'm sure you're aware of all this, but I want to make sure I am illustrating as best as possible. In the 2013 GTS, the PSE is standard and engages ONLY when in Sport mode. When I say engage, I mean, it gets loud. They did not introduce the button that manually controls PSE in or out of sports mode until 2014.

 

The goal I am trying to accomplish is when I am in sports mode - I want it be full on loud all the time without any cut-offs. However, when I'm just cruising in normal, I'd like it to remain quiet. My understanding is that if I plug the lines, I get loud all the time.

 

The DIY I cite looks to be exactly what I want, but I'm a bit too nervous to go exploring. Do you know where that relay might be on the Cayenne?

Roger - that's what I thought. I'll ask the dealer.

 

Any thoughts on disabling the cut-off? Does the relay exist on the Cayenne? Can you point me in helpful directions? Sorry, I'm at a bit of a loss currently.

 

Or, simply, where are the relays? I will go through the process or checking them.

As far as a manual - the ones sold on ebay from the UK are a PDF of the PIWIS technical manuals. They are designed for experienced Porsche mechanics, so they don't assume this is your first time swinging a wrench.  They annoyingly repeat every set of instructions (despite many being identical) for every model Cayenne that was made. (Base, diesel, /S, Turbo, V6-Turbo//S)  It is about 11,000 pages in length.

 

The other legitimate option is a subscription to ALLDATA. They have a special for a 1 year new subscription for around $15. The data isn't as intensive as the PDF from Europe, but it is MUCH easier to find things, and extensive enough to handle the majority of items you might run into.  The subscription is model specific, so if you have an /S or GTS - you won't be wading through page after page of irrelevant material on the diesel or turbo vehicles.
