I replaced my motor mounts and the exhaust tips are now even. I am still having some vibration and suspect the trans mount. As far as building your own part, I one time cut down some boat trailer rollers and reformed them for a wishbone type of mount on a volvo. It worked like a charm.

I sourced a new OE mount and am trying to find a shop that will press it in. So far all the machine and trans shops I'm calling are shaking their heads. They get nervous when they hear that the mount is in the transmission and don't want the liability. The local dealer is also standing me up.

I'm considering trying to press it in myself with a large vice that has jaws that open to 12". Then a 4" section of 2.5" steel pipe with outside diameter of 2.875" to serve as a ram (exact o/d of mount), and a receiver on the opposite side of the mount made from another 4" section of 3" steel pipe with o/d of 3.5" that will butt up against the transmission case.

Edit: the vice did not have sufficient force, but a floor jack did. Don't ruin your vice.

Then a couple more long pieces of steel pipe to serve as larger levers on the shop vice, some safety glasses, perhaps a torch.

If that doesn't work I might try what you've suggested and others have done and cut out the inside of the old mount, and fill it with windshield sealant - one way or the other.

I devised my own method of replacing the old mount. It requires removing the transmission from the vehicle and using a hydraulic press and a couple sections of steel irrigation piping (I used a 6-ton floor jack but a 8-ton or greater shop jack would work best). Don't try a bottle jack unless you can fabricate/weld a support mechanism.

Here is a link to the procedure. Try at your own risk.

Any way to test the tranny mount Motor and Transmission Mountwithout removing the transmission (and mount)?

One thing you can definitely do if you are suspecting your mount to be bad is to go under the vehicle and pry the transmission up off the skid using a crow bar. An indication of a bad mount is if you are able to lift it significantly. Yet, I personally think that the best advice for both tranny and bad mounts is to check the motor and transmission mount from time to time. You should always be able to notice a complete separation of the rubber on bad mounts.

I have a 99 C2 tip...It seems like my tip tranny mounts are done....

Does anyone have a diagram? It seems like 996 375 055 05 is the part number to replace it but replacing it doesn't seem easy...

What's the alternative way to repair the cracked rubber pieces? Fill it in with??? It seems like pressing the old one out and new one in isn't going to be easy...

Thanks.

I've had the tranny dropped not too long ago for the AOS. I'm not planning on dropping the tranny again so I talked to my shop and he says there is enough space to lower the front of the tranny a little. I'll be filling in the space with polyvinyl which fully sets in 5 min or so. Hopefully this will hold for a while.

63 FT/lbs is what my PET shows.....

If it's tightened to 74, will that be a problem?

Thanks,
