When I was working on transmission oil/filter change, I noticed exhaust leaks at various joints on both exhausts.  Is there a recommended way to fix them?  Should I replace the clamps and seals (any particular sealing I should get) at each joint, or should I go with something like muffler weld and or tiger patch?

Thanks

So they do sell exhaust cements and RTVs.  It is normal for small leaks to be at each joint (you will see signs of condensation dripping), but you shouldn't have any large leaks (holes).

If you are concerned with various small leaks at the butt joint clamps you can use the cements or RTVs.....if you have holes or the leak is at the flanges, you should replace the damaged section or gasket.

Here is an example of the cement you can find online:

I did not see any holes, just carbon deposits on joints.  Will try to get some pics as soon as I get a chance and will post results of the experiment.

Thanks

That is typical. If you think about how the joints are held together....you are essentially pinching one tube over another. There will not be a perfect seal. The exhaust cement above or high temp rtv can fix that if it really bothers you.

The exhaust clamps on my GTS are garbage. I keep re-torquing them over the years always finding carbon deposits around them. Last few days I noticed strong exhaust smell under hard acceleration and when going uphill. I totally thought the flexpipe, one of the welds or possibly gasket gave in, turned out to be just the clamps.

I decided to get it fixed for good with flanges and the proper gasket. Highly recommend.

Orginally I thought the smell was coming from the exhuast, however it was coming from the transfercase.  The smell came back after repairing the exhaust. I beilve, this was two seperape issues. After disconnecting the electircal connector to the transfercase the smell is now gone. This proved the small was coming from the burnt clutches in the T-case. Now the truck is driving great, smoother than ever.
