Are there any gotchas with having a shop press in and out new bearings into the hub/carrier units for the front on a C2. I've got one that grumbles under loading on the track and I need to replace rotors anyway, so I thought I'd just pull the carriers and have a shop press in new bearings. I know on other cars I've done this on sometimes the carriers are relatively fragile, is this the case on 996s?

Thanks Loren, I've got the shop manual. I'm just debating to take them to the dealer and have them press the bearings or if a good machine shop can do it. Some cars with aluminum hubs can be damaged if proper backing pieces aren't used when placed in the press.

IMHO, a good machine shop can do it. If you know and trust a machine shop and want to make sure they don't accidentally make a mistake then I would make a copy of the the manual pages and give it to them as a "reference". A good shop would make sure they are doing it right.
