Durametric error 21 Ignition circuit, driver - No warning light

Recently bought a 996, used 68K. After a full restore (more than 10K) I got the Durametric cable (Enthusiast) in order to solve an issue with my central locking station.

 

Today I run through all tests and I got on the airbag section the  21Ignition circuit, driver.I'm not getting any light or any other problems, is that normal?

Fault codes 4, 5, 20, 21, 36 -- Ignition circuit, driver

 

 

Possible cause of fault:

- Short circuit to B+/ground or open circuit in the wiring between the driver's airbag unit and the airbag triggering unit

- Driver's airbag unit faulty

- Triggering unit for airbag faulty

Thanks Loren. So, if this is the case shouldnt I get a warning light? In addition to this is airbag working in a case of an accident or no?

With that code, I would say the air bag is not functional.

Turn the ignition on one click and check to see if your airbag light is illuminated. If no light, replace it. If you have removed your steering wheel recently you may have to reset your codes and see if it comes back. An airbag error 21 ignition driver usually indicates a bad 'clock spring'.

I did that and is illuminated. Then the light goes off when i turn the engine on. I did a repair on the steering wheel, had to add some small rubbers cause the horn was stuck when i bought the car.

Reset the code and see if it comes back.

It comes back. Unfortunately I made an error. The light IS NOT illuminated. I guess that means the previous owner disabled it or something else is wrong. The funny thing is that the car last week passed inspection. In any case, I have to solve this out.

Remove the cluster and check bulb and replace if needed. You'll need to replace your clockspring which can be very spendy new. You may want to find a used one that is guaranteed to be in good working order. Used $50-$75, New $244-$310 depending on where it is purchased.  Part number 996.652.211.01

Make sure the little tabs or forks are there if you purchase a used one.

thanks kbrandsma. I ordered a used one. Let's see if that solves the problem. Going to work today with my speedometer too to see why the bulb isn't working.

Problem solved. After I replaced the clock spring ($39 from UK from a boxster) I got the Durametric Error 01 for the bulb. I changed the bulb and everything is fine now.
