Hello,

 

I have a 1999 C2 Cab M6.  I replaced the top last year through a local installer.  Before the top was replaced, the closing mechanism worked perfectly.  After the new top was installed, the timing for closing the roof it is off.  Specifically, the metal header latch starts to try to engage (move up and click into he hole) about halfway through the routine ... well ahead of when the roof is close to the windshield header.  The top installer said it was due to a tight new roof and over time it would loosen up and work fine. That was nearly a year ago, and there has been no change.  The installer, by the way, takes no responsibility and advises me to see my local dealer to fix it.

 

I can close the top if I release the roof button on the console before the latch starts to engage, manually pull the top close to the front window and finally re-engage the button on the dash.  This is a hit and miss procedure, though, and often taking several attempts for the latch to properly seat and close.

 

Has anyone also had this problem (timing of latch)?  I understand it may be one of the micro switches that needs adjustment, but not sure where to begin to fix.

It  probably needs  to be recalibrated  which would require the Durametric software ,the shop manual and an incredible amount of patience .It sounds like the  sensor (lever) that moves with the top is out of synch or is not attached correctly .The shop manual pictures pictures will help -too hard (for me) to explain .

I had a brand new top installed on a 2000 996. Worked perfectly from the first day. I believe the excuse about "tight top" is BS

Thanks for the response. It sounds like this is not a DIY project.

Forget the Durametric.  It is a pile of junk software.  You will regret ever getting one.

I own a Porsche and expect something more than peecee software that crashes all the time.

I have a Mac but you know you get what you pay for.

Stay away from Durametric until they get real programmers to write the software.  As in MAC programmers.

I have had a Durametric for over 10 years. Bought one of the first ones made and upgraded the cable a few years ago. It is a good system. Is it as good as the original Porsche systems? No, but it works great for a fraction of the cost. The new Porsche system leases for $15,000+/yr.

+1.  I run a business using the Durametric system as well, and have always found it to be an excellent tool.  And for the previous poster, don't get your hopes up, Porsche does not make the PIWIS system for Apple hardware either :oops:

+2. I  have a diagnostic business and own both PIWIS 1,  PIWIS 2 and Durmetric scan tools.Nothing wrong with Durmetric as "JFP said it's a excellent tool"!  If you want to work on automobiles you will need a PC running windows. All the OEMs use windows based software. Macs wont cut it that's the reality.

Uh, actually, I run Windows 10 in Parallel on a Mac...faster than most pcs...Durametric works fine on my Mac!
