Started my 2004 996 TT this morning and had a flashing light next to my temperature gauge, it was not reading anything, along with an error message indicating a temperature gauge indicator problem.

Could I be lucky enough to have a blown fuse or is it likely a sensor problem?

Thanks

Problem is no local Porsche mechanic so hoping for a quick check/fix without a scan then off to a relatively distant mechanic.

Without a scan for what is causing the issue, fixing it quickly becomes a potentially expensive guessing game.  Do you have access to an OBD II scan tool of any kind?

As JFP said get diagnostic assistance...

A new cluster is over $3400

the sensor on  the on the tank is about $33

the sensor on the engine is about $30

and that is just the parts not labor.

Of course it could also be a broken wire or loose connection.

Best not to guess it can get very expensive very fast.

I just saw this response on another forum and it is exactly what happened to me (stalled and restarted with lights on). Any way for me to clear the code without any instrumentation?

"Is the temp gauge also showing zero?

My turbo did this a couple of months back, after I stalled it and restarted with the lights etc. all on. I cleared the fault code and it cured the problem and hasn't happened since.

I searched at the time and found a few people who'd had similar problems and never found the cause."

If you do that, you will also lose any data that could have helped you permanently correct the problem.  Bad idea.

As a long overdue follow-up, I decided to bring the car in to have it evaluated and it all cleared up on my drive to the shop! No problems since...
