Hi guys!

 

this is my first post! let's see if anyone can help me out with this problem.

 

i have a 2004 porsche cayenne turbo with 120 000 miles. took it for a high speed run last night (130+ mph).

when i got home i noticed a very rough idle and the car was shaking/vibrating. i can also hear a noise from the engine similar to an

exhaust leak.

 

the check engine light was already on prior to that ride (codes are : p2187, p2189, p0011, p0441)

no new codes so i assume there is no missfires?

feels like it runs on 7 cylinders.. coils and spark plugs have been replaced recently

 

can a high speed run causes a blown spark plug/coil ?

 

i still have boost so i assume it is not a boost/vaccum leak?

 

can it be a stuck valve, bad spring valve all of a sudden?

 

do i need a compression test or how can i check if one cylinder is missfiring?

 

(i speak french sorry for grammar)

Get the fault codes read using Durametric or a Porsche tool and post them here. Many after market scanners do not pickup Porsche specific codes or pending codes.

Clear the codes - drive the car and re-test.

Hi,

 

If I were troubleshooting I'd have a look at the

MAFs

fuel pumps

vacuum leak test

 

If they all prove sound check when the fuel filter was changed, they become gummed up after about 50k miles.

 

I've just swopped out MAFs and filter which cured both rough idle and the to lean error.

Good morning

 

just got the car back from local shop

 

got it scanned with durametric, got so many codes i almost cried...

 

p0509 : idle air control system rpm

p2187 : system at idle bank 1

p2189 : system at idle bank 2

p0011 : a camshaft position-timing over-advance or system performance bank 1

p0021 :  a camshaft position-timing over-advance or system performance bank 2

p0441 : evaporative emission system incorrect purge flow

p0300 : random/multiple cylinder misfire detected

p0303 : cylinder 3 misfire detected

p0302 : cylinder 2 misfire detected

p0301 : cylinder 1 misfire detected

p0304 : cylinder 4 misfire detected

 

so my mechanic said it might me due to a timing chain problem..making the camshaft skip a tooth resulting in timing advance causing misfire on 4 cylinder (on the same side of the engine)

 

i erased all the codes and only 2 misfire came back.. cylinder 2 & 6.. drove the car back home (5 min away) and performed a compression test

cylinder 2 showed no compression at all, other cylinders were low on compression but i felt that my battery was low so may be the test was not accurate ( i hope so)

next thing i did was a leak down test on cylinder 2.. i could hear the air rushing threw the exhaust.. this tells me i have a bad exhaust valve, or spring valve or some dirt or carbon build up between the valve and the valve seat...

 

so now my question is : can i remove heads with the engine in place? will i need to send both engine heads to machine shop for repair ?

what are the chances i would need new rings OR timing chain done...

mechanic said it could cost up to 1000$ per head to do exhaust valves only...

 

cant immagine how much all of this is going to cost..

125$ each exhaust valve, 16 total

It would be easier, and probably faster, to pull the engine; plus if you run into anything else it would already be out and accessible.

I have removed the heads off my S myself without taking the engine out. There is no need to change all the valves, you can just change out the bad ones. Exhaust valves for the s are way cheaper by the way. You need a tool for the timing which cost about a $100 but you can make it yourself easily. You also should download and read the Workshop manual.

Never said that  heads can't be removed with the engine still in, but it is much easier with it out, plus you have access to anything else at the same time.  My concern is both the amount of time it takes with the engine still in, and then possibly finding out he needs to pull it anyway.

I have found the manual here for my S. Take care not to bend the camshaft pins on the back and check all hoses while you get to it, i had to change some hoses.

Help ! i have Bent 2 intake valve in Bank 2 on my Cayenne S 958

Can i take the head out with the Engine in the car or i should remove the Engine out !

It is Model S 4.8 L and year of made 2011 .

Can i remove the Bank 2 Head with the engine in ?

It would be easier, and quicker, to drop the engine.  You can pull the heads on the V6 with the engine still in, but the V8 is much tighter.

The exhaust manifold's are always a pain because you end  up with broken bolts.

The exhaust manifold's are always a pain because you end  up with broken bolts.

 

 

Will collect the parts , gasket valve , rubbers and will figured out how to make it . maybe first will try from Up :)

will keep update the forum with pictures :)
