Hey guys

trying to figure out what I have done...

I have a 1999 C2 and it came with an aftermarket stereo. The alarm always had 1 beep when locking with the remote. The PO said it was something with the ground. OK.

I removed the Aftermarket radio to try and fit a CDR-220 but I couldn't as I didnt have the correct 1 din brackets anymore. They had been shaved off to install the 2 din aftermarket.

I put the aftermarket back in but now the key remote doesn't lock the car. I get two beeps. The interior dome light doesn't work. The central locking switch doesn't work on the center console. The radio works though.

I connected the ground wire. Still nothing.

Are there any fuses that might have blown when the ground was disconnected? Did installing the Porsche CDR-220 reset something in the alarm system that is now fouling it up when it's not there anymore?

I don't understand :) I put everything back together as it was.

Thanks

One beep means you have at least one zone open.

Two beeps says you have an alarm fault (that needs to be fixed).

No beeps is normal.

If you install an aftermarket radio head you need to cut and tape the alarm system wire that went to the factory radio.

If you still have beeps after that you will need Durametric or a Porsche diagnostic tool (like PST2 or PIWIS) to location the exact cause of the problem.

The factory wire to the radio, as in the ground that goes to the cage?

The strange thing is that this all worked 2 days ago, before I pulled the aftermarket stereo, unplugged everything to test the CDR-220 (by the way, the code you gave me worked! Thanks)

And when putting it all back together, it now beeps twice and doesn't lock. I am ok with it beeping once and locks, as it used to.

thanks

Thank you, I'll look at that.

Would that alarm wire being connected stop the dome light, and central locking button from working as well? Or is there a fuse that I might have to look into too?

All good now!

Turns out it was fuse C3. I kept googling and came across the solution.

The ground wire is now connected to the stereo cage so now it locks without a beep.

Thanks Loren for the quick reply, and with the stereo code as well.
