Thinking of buying this 1971 914 that has been sitting in a gaage for 6years. The car supposedly was running when parked in the garage 6 years ago. What will I need to do to get it running again. Thanks

I have a Mercedes W123 MY1976 which belonged to my late father. He didn't drive it for many years and it was likewise sat in the garage. It started with relatively little trouble and ran like a song. Other than the petrol filter being gunged up, there was little else wrong with it.

Put a battery in, check the engine oil and radiator, put in some fresh petrol, prime the carb with Cold Start or similar, turn the key and then take it from there.

They don't make cars built like that or the W123 anymore!

Since the car is fuel injection you will need to inspect all of the hoses to the FI as even minor leaks will make the car run poorly.

Replace any questionable hoses as they are weak point of this FI system.
