I have a dashboard error message showing a drivers side (right hand drive car) airbag fault and I'm trying to diagnose the origin of the faulty component / connection.

I connected a durametric reader and the fault code was '8059 drivers front sensor no communication'.

My best guess is that the accelerometer behind the front bumper (drivers side) could be at fault but I can't find much supporting information online. Has anyone got any info / experience they could share?

Thanks

Jason

POSIP 8059 - Driver's lateral sensor

Possible fault causes:
- Short circuit to B+/ground/between lines or open circuit in the lines
-  Incorrect sensor installed as driver's front sensor
-  Driver's front sensor faulty
-  POSIP triggering unit faulty

I would look for shorted/broken or corroded connections at the sensor.
You will likely need to remove the front bumper cover to get to the two sensors (one on each side). Disconnect the battery and remove the key from the ignition switch before doing your checks.

Location A is the front airbag sensors.

Thank you Loren, much appreciated.

I've ordered a new sensor (£56) in anticipation that the unit is faulty,it should arrive next week and I'll fit it over the weekend.

I'll report back on the outcome.

I have now replaced the part and the problem is fixed!

Thanks again Loren for your help.
