OK, so I bought the car and within the 5 weeks of ownership, had so many issues, enough was enough. The last straw was the prop shaft bearing failing. The car had only done 50,000 miles!!

Anyway, cut my losses and sold it - the 5 weeks of owning a 10 year old Cayenne lost me about £3250. I will never buy an old Porsche again. Next time (if ever), it'll be new!!

Thanks for all of the help from people on here over the last few weeks. A great forum with great, knowledgable members! Just wish I had come across it BEFORE I bought the 10 year old 'tractor'.

It's unfortunate you had a negative experience, but perhaps next time some additional due diligence before purchase might have helped avert some of the issues.  My turbo is 9 years old, but it's been quite reliable for the two years I've enjoyed it thus far.

Research Research Research,

These are not maintenance free but when you fix their issues you can be sure it is a great vehicle.

Got mine at 35K replaced

coolent pipes,

Carden Shaft,

Water Pump 

coils. 

 

Been problem free for 10 K miles and 1 year now :)

I have spent about $15,000 on my car and when I get into it in the morning and fire it up, it all comes back to me...it is the most incredible motor vehicle experience I have ever had in my life! Amazing performance, speed, agility, cornering and engineering. I love it and I don't have a lot of money, but it is still worth every penny. You might try another Porsche again. Do your research before you buy it and then, enjoy it for what it is.

Hey, my 05 s model has 176,000. The previous owner paid to have all those typical repairs done, there was 10,000$ in receipts in the records. However, I do have mechanical ability and the only think I could see wrong when I bought it for 9000, was a leaking valve cover gasket. Did tie rods to get through inspection. And I love this car, I only planned to own it for a short time, and possibly resell. espescialy after reading all these horror stories online. I believe I'm changing my mind though. With that many miles you would think it going to go any day now, but I assure you it still drives, shifts, and turnes heads like the sexy beast that she is. I do baby it and hardly ever stomp on the pedal. I'm a firm believer that mechanical wear and tear on a vehicle has a lot to do with how you drive. My neighbor has. Ford tempo that's still getting it. Even on the net I only see a handful of pepper wagons with this many miles. I thought maybe it was good that I got it at this point. All the major **** that goes wrong has already happen and been replaced. So we will see how long I can go just replacing > $200 parts. I can handle that.

Yeah this isn't an issue with a cayenne....it's an issue with the owner....

Secondly buying a new porsche? How does that resolve your issue? Sounds like you have good problem solving abilities.....

Cars in general have life limited parts....the faster and more luxurious they are the more life limited parts they seem to have. With a cayenne you get both.

Owning a car like a cayenne is a hobby. If you can't handle that then go get a camry.

2005 Cayenne S, 11 years of ownership, not 100% problem free.

 

I LOVE my Cayenne.  If I plan to switch another all purpose vehicle, it will be another Cayenne.

I got so sick of the problems my camry had I sold it lol.  battery, starter, alternator, brake calipers, front shocks, rack and pinion, power steering all in a six month period....of course it was my wife's car since before we got married so probably not one ounce of maintenance beyond oil changes.
