I own a 996 TT with a removable hardtop and am thinking of selling it.  I dont see many of them around and am wondering if they are more valued than a traditional soft top convertible or not?  I personally like the hardtop because I dont think soft tops look as good and can be a pain in the winter, but just wondering if there is really a difference in the demand out there and if I should factor it in the price?

If you are looking for opinions, I am happy to oblige.  I don't like the hardtop.  It is a PIA to store and inconvenient to remove/install.  The soft top is more than adequate for weather protection when necessary.  I specifically requested no hard top when I bought my TT new.  But it is just MHO.

I had a car without HT. I bought it for little money ($300? on another forum).

It's one of the things that Porsche couldn't get right. It's even worse than the soft top and that's quite a feat.

With that said, I'd still use it if I were to use the car from Thanksgiving to Easter north of say GA or so. Canvas tops do not like winter.

If I understand you are thinking about selling your 996 TT that has a removable hard top??  Most all 996 convertibles came with the optional hard top unless the original purchaser deleted it.  In 2004 (I think) the hard tops were changed to "Optional" equipment.

I agree with your observation that the hard top is nicer in the winter, it is also quieter and a little roomier.  That said depending on where a potential buyer lives they may not even want the hard top.

So I guess I would say the top may not add to the price.
