Can anyone tell me exactly which Tiptronic Transmissions will work in a 2004 C4S? I have a problem in the output shaft assy sometimes referred to as the transfer case. (I understand there really isn't a transfer case per se in a C4S) Quite a noticeable whine from the right rear. No codes thrown. Indy first diagnosed by stethoscope as rear diff, but upon further listening fairly certain it's in the transfer case area. Says AWD not working as it should. Basically Porsche has told him they won't sell the output shaft/transfer case parts - not to try to fix rather replace the Tiptronic. OUCH. He is looking for options, but in case a used Tiptronic is necessary, I need the part number for a 2004 Carrera 4S Tiptronic and if any other model year AWD Tiptronic's will work in my 2004 C4S Cab. Any help greatly appreciated. - Hutch

Two are listed, 996-300-020-07, and 996-300-020-37.

Thanks JFP. Looks like the 37 is the 40% limited slip, 07 no LS. It also appears it is the Mercedes Benz (made for Porsche) 722.6 tranny? I found some info that also indicated the Tiptronic S in my 2004 C4S is A96.35 possibly with a Porsche part no = G722270600? Pretty confusing and I certainly don't wanna buy a used Tiptronic S that isn't a perfect match for my car. Know what I mean? - Hutch

The part numbers I listed are what are in the Porsche system as replacements for the car you described.  They also list a new complete transaxle assembly (722-270-060-0), which retails for a tick under $17K.
