Hi, I'm new here (and a relatively new owner), so please forgive me if this is somehow covered somewhere else --- although I've been researching for a few weeks in the forums and on other sites about my problem and I don't think I've found the specific answer.  We checked all the fuses in the pannel on the driver's side, but nothing looks blown, burnt, etc.  Everything looks like it's in order

 

A few weeks ago, my key remote stopped working.  I can still lock, and unlock my car using the physical key in the door.  To open the passenger door, I have to close my door, insert the key into the ignition (within a certain amount of seconds or the alarm sounds), and either physically open the passenger door, or push the unlock button on the dash.

 

My alarm still works, and the sensor on the dashboard still flashes when the alarm is armed (when I double-turn the key to the right when physically locking the door).  I know it's not the battery to the remote key (the battery did die before this incident before, I changed it, and then it was fine again).

 

Would any one have any idea why I can't get the remote lock to work anymore?  Where else should I look if not the fuse panel?

I had the same issue on my 4S.  Very annoying since manually unlocking would sometimes set off the alarm.  I would try simply replacing the battery in the key head first, it only costs $1 or so.  If that doesn't work then you will probably need to replace the keyhead which is about $200 total including the part and labor (for the dealer to program in the code).  If you need the keyhead you can order that from Sunset and the dealer should only charge 1/2 hour labor to code it to your car's ECU.

My old boxster used to occasionally forget remotes.  I'm not sure how that happens, but sometimes when I would disconnect the battery for some other job, one or the other wouldn't work afterwards.  One thing to make sure of is that you save the white paper tag that comes with any new fobs you buy.  They have a code, and if you don't save that code, the dealer won't be able to program your immobilizer to recognize the remote.... then you have to buy a new fob, even though the one you have looks perfectly fine.

 

The key has 3 parts: blade, RF transponder, and keyless entry remote.  If you buy a new fob with the electronics inside, you can use it with the car as long as you transfer the old blade and rf transponder little peanut thing to the new fob.  Then the dealer will have to program the remote portion.

Hi, just found this old post and you perfectly describe the problem I currently have with my 2004 boxster. Was just wondering if you found a solution to this problem as I’m currently chasing my tail!

Any assistance you can provide would be greatly appreciated
