so i just purchased a 2001 996tt local on craigslist, bought the car damaged and fixed it up, now trying to get the little quirks fixed and taken care of before i get it on the road. my issue is the low oil pressure light,

after the car sits and idles for about 15 minutes the low oil pressure light randomly turns on and the moment i rev the rpm past 1k rpms the low oil pressure light goes away instantly. the weird part about it is, that the oil pressure on the gauge isnt going down, it stays at a pretty constant 2 bar, if anyone has a input on this or a personal experience i would greatly appreciate it.

The oil pressure sensor has a dual function, sending a signal to: a)the gauge and B) oil pressure light. The sensor and connector/wiring are, actualy the Achilles' heel of the system, it has the appearancethat there is something wrong with the sensor, however a check with a professional oil pressure gauge gives you the full certainty.

I'll try getting a new sensor and changing it, the car did stand around for a while after it got into the accident so I guess it's worth a shot.

I have a similar issue. Just bought this car from a good friend and he told me about this issue before I bought it. I have a 2004 996TT with X50, and a couple of times a week the oil pressure readout goes to zero, and then a few seconds later snaps back to a normal reading. From what I've been reading here it seems to point to the instrument cluster. I'm an electronics engineer and have a lot of experience in repairing similar vintage pcbs. Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.

I had problem with pressure fluctuation and replacing the oil pressure sensor fix my problem and that was 2 years ago....Manorth24 you should start with this simple job (and also not too expensive) before touching the cluster.... There a good chance it will fix your issue....
