Last week I ordered a cup holder retrofit for my 1999 996. Excited to complete the install, I jumped on it this morning. Removed the lower and upper console to make the install and rerouting of climate control wires easier. I DISCONNECTED THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE PRIOR TO starting the repair.

I buttoned up the work and went to start the car, ignition is locked (key won't turn, gear shifter (Tiptronic) won't move), light in the trunk is out.

I only have radio. When I disconnect/reconnect the battery I hear the cd changer initiate and I can turn the radio on and off, it appears to work fine once I enter the security code.

Guys, what in the world could I have done to kill the power to the car?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, went back through everything, Checked all connections. Put the car back together, jerked on the steering wheel and shifter (aggressively) and the car awoke from its nap.

I'm left to conclude the issue was the steering wheel or shifter lock. I was laying on the floor console for part of the work.

All is well.

Regards,

Jay
