CDR23 and bluetooth connection using Dice 30 pin connection

Hi Folks

 

I don't know if this has been covered, but I recently bought a 996 C4s it has the bose system and a CDR23, it has a Dice 30pin iPod connector which as we know does not fit the lightning style connector, tried various adapters that did not work, so I ordered a bluetooth adapter which plugs onto the 30pin connector LAYEN i-Dock 4.0, cost £24 approx.

 

Connection to the phone is easy and it worked without any problem in fact I would say that the sound quality is better as you can control the input to the stereo from the volume control of the phone.

 

Only negative, which in my opinion is that the normal text you would see on your stereo just says empty station, but I can live with that.

 

Positives, keeps the car original, I can hide the cable altogether the bluetooth adapter is very small and the car now looks original, I can use any phone that has bluetooth to stream my music. Don't have to put a new interface or stereo system into the car.

 

Anyway this is day 1 will add to this thread once I have experimented a little more, incoming phone call etc.

where can i get this DICE 30 pin connector?  and how does it connect to the CDR23? is it connected to the CD Changer port?  Do i need to have CD Changer enabled too if i don't currenly have one?

My guess is that at some point the radio was taken out, sent to Becker, and the connecter was installed at the factory.  I think that's the only way to do it.

I considered doing this some years ago, but really didn't want to take the radio out.  And I didn't want to put in an aftermarket GPS/radio and move down the a/c control, etc, although that mod is fairly popular and looks pretty good once accomplished.

If there is another way, I'd sure be interested in how it's done.

The bluetooth adapter looks cool.

Was there ever an answer on this? I have a 2004 C2 with a CDR-23 with the MOST fiber optic system I remember reading there's not much you can do other than a denson unit wired directly into the frunk amp?

I have the iSIMPLE ISFM2351 TRANZIT BLU HF adaptor installed, and it works quite well. Because the MOST adaptors are very expensive, this is the next best thing.

 

Traditional FM transmitters have a lot of interference, which was solved quite well in this model as it disconnects the external antenna when in use. There is an app that you install on your phone for initial configuration. When you get in your car, it gets connected automatically, and the cool thing is also that you can use your phone as it has a microphone that you install somewhere in the dashboard.

I've thought about this issue quite a lot, and decided some time ago not to install an aftermarket gps/sound system and move the a/c panel down on the console.  I actually like the little cubby hole, and use the push in/push out cd holders.  I also occasionally use an iPod fm transmitter that plugs into the lighter socket, and I find that it works fairly well.

Your solution seems good.  So, if you please, how about some more details.

The iSIMPLE ISFM2351 TRANZIT BLU HF can be either connected to an AUX port (but the CDR23 doesn’t have one) OR using the FM-bypass. The system is in essence simple, but very well-conceived from a design standpoint.

 

The kit includes:

• The adaptor itself, which includes the FM in-out cables
• One microphone with cable (so you can use your phone)
• One multi-function button (call handling, next song, etc.)
• One connection harness, which includes power and the aux-in cable
• Configuration app for your mobile phone, once you’ve connected using Bluetooth

 

You need to get a couple of keys to take the CDR23 out, you can get those easily on eBay.

 

This is a picture of my layout. I also gave it a lot of thought when installing the system as I wanted to keep my car OEM looking, but adding some cool features of newer cars. you can see at the bottom on the left the multi-function button.

The button just happens to be located where I've placed the remo​te display for my Valentine-1.

Hey guys, I just got 2003 Boxter with CDR23 media in it

 

It does have AUX port (see pic attached, AUX is on the bottom), as far as I understand it's some custom solution, but I have no idea how to switch to AUX as input on the CDR23.

I've already tried methods I've found online like holding TP button for 8 seconds and so on (tried holding all buttons lol), but nothing seems to work :(

 

@JuncoJones how do you switch to your custom input source? Does it work instead of FM in your case?

 

Would really appreciate any advice even if you're not sure, thanks!

If the car has a CD (6-disc) player then you need to look for a switch as only one device can use the AUX port at one time.

The cdr-23 is digital MOST on fiber optics. There is no stereo analog “aux” input like the cdr-220. Becker autosound will custom install a mono analog adapter which uses the cell phone input. But again it’s just mono. More than likely that what the 3:5 mini phone connector is for that’s shown in the picture.

I was able to contact previous owner through the dealer, turns out it's a combo of bluetooth adapter and FM transmitter + custom power toggle and 3.5mm input (disabled, was working through FM transmitter before bluetooth). So it works, the problem is of course noticeable difference in sound quality and what's more important — collision with other radio stations that makes it hard to listen to

 

So far I'm thinking about custom 2-din Android multimedia, I have that installed in 2010 Cayenne and it's much better than standard system

I upgraded my CDR-23 on my last Carrera to an aftermarket double din system. Wasn't the easiest job since I was dealing with a proprietary "MOST" based system with six channels. You'll need to be prepared to purchase a suitable wire harness and frunk amp in addition to the double din head unit.
