295/40R21 Tires

2008 Cayenne S.  I have 21” BBS rims and my OEM tires are 295/35R21 are done, need to be replaced.  Want more rubber, more cushion and found good deal on 295/40R21 tires from GL550 ... did anyone tried to drive on slightly (about 1” taller) rubber, I understand the speed will be off a bit which is OK with me.  My only concern is if there is enough room in the wheel well vertically, (tire width is the same) ... ???

Should be enough room. At 100KPH indicated you will actually be doing about 104KPH.

On the S model with those wheels, this shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks for your help, I had closer look at the Conti 295/40R21 and they are not as good as I thought they would be, maybe 50% life left.  Now I am seriously thinking about getting new rims and tires (i.e. 275/40R20 or 22) for a cost of new tires only 295/35R21.  Unfortunately 21” tires are ridiculously expensive, and there are not to many brand options. And possibly sell my OEM 21” 10.5 BBS RX2 rims. Still making my mind :-)

There are several new alternative 295/35R21" Torres now that are pieced more competitively. Vredestein has one and there is at least one more European made 295 introduced in this past year. My recollection is they were in the $200s. With the fall of the Euro, you will see more of this. They were hard to get last year because of hi demand, but supply should be catching up this year. They have been discussed on several Cayenne forums. Another idea, I bought a nice set of 4 late date Contis, one at a time, with 75% tread and had them installed for a total of $500 for the set. So there are alternatives. Do some digging and you might not have to buy new rims and spend so much.

Finally got these Conti DWS 295/40R21 ordered and installed on my BBS rims.  More rubber, than 295/35R21 but not enough to rub against the wheel well ! so happy with these Contis :-)
