Cruise control retrofit problem

Hi All

 

I have a 2007 Porsche 997 TT Manual transmission . Have just retrofitted cruise control - fitted new CC stalk with connecting wire to wiper stalk. recoded DME to add CC and instrument cluster to activate CC. When i put ignition key in Green CC light come on on instrument cluster but after that nothing. The CC stalk seems to not be active. I have Piwis software.

Am i missing something else.

 

Any advice would be welcome.

You also need to code the steering column contol unit.

 

The full process is:

1. Complete Control Module Search
2. Code DME
3. Code Instrument Cluster > Vehicle Variants
4. Code Steering Wheel Electronics
5. Ignition Off > On
6. Complete Control Module Search and clear fault codes

Thread revival!

 

So I've just gotten my local indy doing this and while they can code the instrument cluster and gateway modules (symbol shows up at ignition at pos. 2), they can't code DME and steering column control unit.

 

Any idea why?  I'm booking the car for the dealer to take a look at as the indy indicated that it might be their Durametric and old Piwis (to 996 only) might be the cause.

You shouldn't make any changes to the Gateway.  Only the DME, Instrument Cluster, and Steering Electronics.

Your profile says you have a 2003 996.  In that case, look into the DME Vehicle Data, and check that the Order Code is entered correctly.  For a RHD C4 Cabriolet, it should be 996611.  Then do a FULL Control Module search, and code the instrument cluster and DME for "with cruise control".

I should have updated my profile, I actually now have a 2010 997.2 C2, profile fixed now BTW.

 

I provided the link to this post to them, I don't know whether they followed your instruction to the letter.

 

Since I'm bringing the car to OPC, and there isn't a lot of 911s in Wellington (New Zealand) so this might be the first one they have to do.  So I'm hoping to be able to get them to read through a set of instructions rather than doing trial and error.

 

The indy said that using Durametric, the DME didn't show an option for cruise control.  Using their 'older' Piwis, it showed cruise control but didn't accept the setting provided.

I have only used PIWIS2 for coding 9x7s for cruise.  I suspect that your indy may have been using a PIWIS1, which might not be up to date enough for a 2010 997.2.

Exactly.  I'm planning to give your instructions to the OPC and get them to exactly follow these step-by-step.  They'll have the latest PIWIS.  This is the problem here that there isn't enough modern 911s for the indy to invest $5-$10k on the 'latest' tools all the time.

Chance would be a fine thing.  $5-10K would be an excellent deal, the annual lease costs for a current PIWIS system is $20K per year...……..

$20k? And that's in USD which translates to around $30-ish thousands in NZD!  Not really feasible for a small business where only a small %age of the customer base needing it.
