Hi,  I've done quite a bit of searching regarding spring types spring rate codes etc...And haven't been able to really determine without doubt what's on my car. I've got a  '99 C4 with 137,000 mi. on it. I can say fairly confidently that the suspension is not "original" (it's very stable, tight and firm with very little body roll - quite impressive actually - I can't see it being original with 137,000 mi.). So, I've recently had the front wheels off and I've seen the spring markings. The fronts are top mark - 1 green bottom marks, 1 lilac/pink 1 green. The sway bar has the green mark, but I think all the C4's have these. In the rear, I haven't had the wheels off, and can't see anything on the springs...the sway bar has the green paint mark... Has anyone got any firm grasp on this stuff?

The lower green mark is the compensation spring spacer size (green = 6.5 mm).

The upper marking are likely violet/green - which would be the US standard suspension.

From the Porsche 996 Service Manual:

- Violet color dot = standard running gear C4 RoW/USA
Red-purple color dot = sport-type running gear C4 RoW
Orange color dot = sport-type running gear C4 USA

Hi Loren, thanks for the reply. The lilac/green are the lower marks. The upper mark is green. The shock has a round purple mark on it (not in photo above)

The two marks designate the type of suspension - the single mark the compensation spacer required.

You will need to determine if the color is violet (US standard) or re-purple (RoW sport). It would be unusual to have that RoW sport spring on a US car. Most people that go "sport" get the 10 mm lower sport which is different colors.
