Hi Folks,

I'm new here though I have been lurking and learning for a little while. I'm wondering if anyone has gotten CarPlay radios to work with their Cayennes (mine is an 06), or if someone may be able to suggest a process whose installation inst as costly as the receiver itself.

I'm looking at the beautiful and intuitive Alpine i007 (or ix007). The back is half the length so presumptively an installation would be simplified, but no idea. It's the interface that gets me. Nothing fancy; nothing that says "we're trying to make EVERY phone in the world work with this." Very clean.

Let me know if you have suggestions, folks, and particularly in the Sputh Florida Area. I'll post those pics once it's installed and you'll love it.

Do you have the premium Bose system with Amp and MOST connections?  If so, then you cannot just replace the head unit.  You either need to buy a MOST interface/adapter which are around $600-$700 or so, or replace the Amp as well and pull out all the fiber optics and replace with more conventional wiring.

 

At the couple of places I'd trust locally to do that, I have priced it and yes the install is as much as the equipment and that is just the nature of it.

 

That being said, there are a few complete replacements that some members on this forum have done and documented that look fantastic (although super complex for someone like me).

That looks dazzling, grdlaw. That's exactly what I'm looking for.  How much was the installation proportional to the system itself? I'm quoted anywhere from $179 (by folks who have installed stuff for me before and whom I trust)  to almost $700 (by Best Buy). It does not appear that I have the premium Bose "most" unit. Advice is appreciated, folks, and I thank you for it.

The install for labor was $200.  However, be aware that you will need the MOST-HUR955 Fiber Optic head unit replacement module which runs about $500 to $600.  In addition, I had a Porsche dash kit installed with it for about $100.  So, overall, it cost more for the parts and install than the unit itself.  However, it was well worth it!

One thing you should be aware of with Alpine products...it requires that a wire be connected to the parking brake wire in order to access the menu controls in order to avoid being able to that while driving.  Have your installer install a manual kill switch instead.  Otherwise, you will never be able to access the menu controls unless your parking brake is activated.

I have a kenwood in my Cayman. I just grounded the wire that was supposed to go to the parking brake. 

Best thing i did was replace the radios in both my Cayenne and Cayman.  
Look up the Dynavin for Cayenne. Gives a great stock look and is comparable with the bose.

Whoa! This is really a key thing to know.  

What I'd really like to get it is whether I would still need the  MOST-HUR955 Fiber Optic head unit even though I don't have a Bose system.

What year is your Cayenne and what model stereo do you have installed presently? Post a pic.

That sounds like a daunting process. I can tell you 2006 and the PCM 2.1, but posting a pic is going to require that I research the FAQs for the forum (I'm new here although my first Porsche was in 1990). I will do that and post, though he fully you guys can garner something from the info I've given here, '06, PCM 2.1.

I think your PCM 2.1 also has fiber optic wiring. If such is the case, you will probably need to get the MOST unit. Call Sean at Ray's electronics (630) 237-4333 and he'll be able to give you a definitive answer.

That's prime. Sean sounds like someone who would lend definition to this inquiry. I'll do just (we'll soon find out if he's open on a Sunday) and I'll post his answer. Very appreciated, grdlaw.
