Hello all - I am new to the forum as I recently purchased a 2004 Cayenne S.  I bought it because it was mechanically in great shape, and had no issues...except the radio.  I've installed various radios over the years so I figured this was no big deal.  As I have read these forums it seems like the radios on these cars are a nightmare.  I've done some searching but nothing has helped so far.

 

The instrument display says "NO RADIO" and the radio will just display "PORSCHE".  Pushing any button does nothing.

 

The first thing I want to try to do is remove the fuse for the radio to force a reboot...however my owners manual fuse diagram does not tell me which one is for the radio...does anyone know the answer to that off hand?

 

I've also read when you disconnect a battery that the radio "loses its match" to the car or something similar to that?  Any way for me to attempt to fix?  carfax says the car dealer put a new battery in it prior to selling it to me.

 

Also any other advice please let me know...

The CDR-23 should not have any issues when the battery is disconnected. Although it is matched to the car it is rare to see one that is not.

Possibilities that I can think of are: someone changed out the radio and the new radio needs to be matched to the car, a fiber optic (MOST) cable has become disconnected and the radio can not communicate with the rest of the system, or there is a bad amp.

 

Diagnosis would be a lot easier if you have access to a Porsche specific diagnostic tool like Durametric software, a Porsche PIWIS tester, or Porsche PIWIS 2 tester. Without one of these tools it becomes an expensive guessing game.

Follow up - would there be anything wrong with just scrapping the Bose system as a whole, installing a few new speakers, wiring them to a new head unit without the MOST system at all...willing to give up steering wheel communication, etc...i am still a little unsure if that would cause any issue with the rest of the car's functions.

update:  finally located online fuse diagram that is honestly more complete than what is in my car, pulled fuses for 30 seconds for radio and amp, replaced, cranked car, fully functional immediately.  so...happy camper for now.  hopefully it doesn't resurface.  So a couple days of internet searching paid off.  Thanks for your contributions.

That's my question! I think he means the fuse in the back of the CDR-23. I had a non working CDR-23 which said protect, but pulling fuses did not change anything.

WHAT FUSE ?

 

sorry in my car it was right side dash, fuses 11 and 12, I think if I recall a 30A and a 15A.  And just to update 10 days later have had zero issues since I did this.
