Just wondering. Everyone has a theory on oil changes before factory recommendations or to follow them, but I don't hear much on the tranny oil. Factory shows change at 90,000 miles.

But I wonder, with a few missed shifts, grinding gears or whatever mishaps may happen in a year or two, is it worth the trouble to do this early?

Thoughts?

I just did our '98 Boxster at 53Kmiles. Seems to shift better esp in the cold. It's a pain to do so really be ready to do it and study up. If you can get the car up high enough it can be done on jack-stands.

Eric - I change mine every 30k miles. It's inexpensive and it's a noticeable difference in feel once it's changed.

hard to do? It's incredibly easy! You just need an allen socket and a catch pan. A highly recommended tool is a pump that screws onto the containers and pumps it into the side case - pump until full approx 3L.

What are you guys using for transmission fluid? The factory recommendation or something special? I'm just curious.

I used oil I got from the Porsche dealer. It was actually Audi oil, 75-90W. I think there are all kinds of opinions on what kind of oil to use.

On our Boxster there are two rear suspension struts to remove and an AL under panel. Then one needs a 17mm allen socket an a special socket for the drain. The socket for the drain is a sixteen square ... I bought both off ebay for like $14 dollars each. I made a special pump using shop air pressure limited to 25psi, clear tubing and an old water bottle.
