Can someone tell me what is actually involved in loading feature addition software like the (logbook or online) by the dealer (how much work is it really)? My local dealer is trying to get an hour of labor for each install and I cannot for a minute believe that there is any significant work involved.

It is an hour labor because they have to hook up a PIWIS -- test the system -- request the upgrade from Porsche AG (with proof of payment). Then once approved by Porsche AG -- they get a release code to upload it to your car. If they say can do that in an hour they might be a bit optimistic. (IMHO)

Porsche changed to this verification system after too many dealers were either not charging or failed to pay Porsche for the upgrades.

Thanks for the explanation.

That's sad.... maybe they should hire a few competent software devs. After digging around on their technical manual site, it's clear there's no talent in that part of the organization.
