I've searched the forums, and I haven't found a similar issue...

I have a 2004 Targa and the windows have been working great up until the last couple of weeks.  Now when I have the passenger window down and I press the switch for it to go back up, it'll get about half way up, pause, and then put itself back down.  After a couple of tries I can manage to get it to go all the way back up by holding the switch down.  I've tried resetting the limits, but that didn't help.  The driver's side window works great.

Any ideas?

Start by trying a complete re-training. That is, hold the button to lower the window and then continue to hold it 10 seconds longer - do the same as you raise the window.

Test the window for one-touch operation.

If you are still having problems then you likely have a worn or damaged regulator (cable).

There is an adjustment for how the window will go but if this was lost all of a sudden it is most likely a regulator issue.

I've made an interesting finding:  After following the steps you outlined above, Loren, the problem persisted.  The window would go down fine, but pause about half way up and go back down.  So I decided to try opening the passenger door before attempting to use the one-touch operation again, and it worked!  The window went up and down with no issues.  I closed the door and tried to operate the window again...  Still working!

It seems that cycling the window through it's up/down positions with the door open has made it start working - at least temporarily.  I'll keep an eye on it and post here with anything new I that find.

Happy to hear but it appears to me that your regulator might be getting a bit tired, lacking lubrication and stretched so I would suggest to keep that window clean to make it easy on the regulator to keep working with the least resistance possible. Keep us updated!

Agreed. I'm thinking that the problem has only recently arisen due to the cooler weather; causing things to not want to slip and slide as they should. I'll keep checking it over the next few days. If it comes back, I may open the door up and perform the bicycle brake cable adjuster mod to tighten things up a bit (I already had to do that on the driver's side for the "window-not-dropping-when-the-door-is-opened" issue.) I'll keep you posted!

Well, it's still acting up.  Looks like I'm going to be opening up the door and seeing if I can tighten up the regulator cable.

I fixed it!  It was the in/out adjustment for the rear of the window (with the passenger door open, the adjustment on the bottom of the door: 2nd from the right.)  I had to adjust the back of the window to lean in a bit more - thus, moving the bottom of the window out a little.  Now it's not dragging on the gasket as much and moves up and down great.

Just curious to know by how much you did move the bottom leg by any chance to get the window freed-up. Thanks for the update!

The adjustment bolt was in the middle of the "slider" channel before I started.  I ended up sliding it almost all the way in (towards the vehicle.)  It may be a bit too far, but I'm going to wait and see if I get any leaks or wind noise before I make further adjustments.  Just a visual inspection of the gaskets seem to indicate that's it's still sealing though.

Update: I drove the car through a pretty intense rain storm today, then left it in the work parking lot all morning while it was still raining.  No leaks!
