I have bought the Mrs a 2005 997 C2S for Christmas.

 

I live in Bristol, UK.

 

The battery gave out on the day after boxing day, with two cells down, so with only one battery supplier open I went to them and replaced it with a Yuasa Silver YBX9096.

 

The heated seats and front boot light now don't work.

 

I have ben advised that I need to do a vehicle handover to wake up the control modules.

 

I have seen these two tools:

Will either of these do the job?

 

Or do I have to go to an independant specialist or an OPC?

Sorry, neither one of those will do a vehicle handover - but I am not sure you need that either.

Have you checked the fuses for seat heats and lights?

 

If it turns out you do need a re-program then you will need to find a shop with a Porsche PST2, PIWIS, or PIWIS 2 tester as they are the only ones that have the factory re-programming code.

The first thing I noticed was the front boot light wasn't working. I thought it was the bulb and it must have gone/blown, but I checked it and it was fine and there was 0v to it so I thought that a fuse must have gone. I hadn't noticed the seat heaters at that point.

I took the fuse cover off in the footwell and read the paper guide and checked Row C F3 front end ctl un TRM15 light switch TRM15. But this was fine.

When the Mrs noticed the heated seats weren't working I checked Row E E1, E2 & E3 but they are fine too.

Being new to these cars it is abit of a learning curve.

Am I looking at the wrong fuses?

Do the seats otherwise work (movement)?

If so, then it is a "forgotten" program issue and you will need a shop to re-program. Likely re-program both the seats and the front end controllers. I am afraid that is a know issue on the early 997-1 cars.

I Concur, I believe last time I saw this issue a "Handover" Solved it (Requires capable shop equipment)

I don't think the PST2 will work on the 997 unless he can get the elusive PST2 update 27 ( that includes the 997) that I have only seen a screen shot and a unit that a mechanic from FVD was using. And that unit from Porschecable is the old Chinese Durametric Clone with version 3.1 and is extremely limited on the 997 and can not be updated as it will brick the cable. However it is available on EBay for about half the price on that website.

I have access to a friends AUTEL MD802 to read codes and the like, but I don't think that will do it.

Hello All,

 

I lost connectivity to the site, in January after there was an issue with IP addresses, Loren fixed it, then we had a few family issues. 

 

Anyway, I am back, still thinking about buying a system.

 

I borrowed my friends Autel MD802 and it seems to be able to read most things.

 

I will have it for a bit more time shortly and get a better idea of its capabilities. Though it won't do a handover.

 

It did find a P0301 so coil pack number one will be replaced shortly.

I can confirm that  the cable from www.porschecable.com works. I’ve ordered this in the past, it looks like a gen 1 durametric cable and does the trick without paying over the odds prices. It is compatible with version 4 or 5 of the software and also comes with software download link which and does the job and is an inexpensive way of getting the job done as has saved me a fortune. This does a lot of the Porsche specific task such as read specific module info, reset airbag etc which generic readers wont do. Hope this feedback helps.

Gen 1 cables only use the early software and will be "bricked" if you try and update to the latest version software (6.5.3.2).  Because it can only use the old (several years old) software, it does not have many of the corrections or access to some of the systems on cars built after 2007.  You do get what you pay for..............

@mjansari, are you positive cable from www.porschecable.com will work with Durametric v4 and v5 (i.e., v5.1.4 since other v4 or v5 no longer exists for downloading anymore)? I thought these cables only work with the older Durametric v3.0.15 and will get bricked if used with v5.1.4? Thanks.
