My battery went completely dead and now the key won't even open the door manually, is there another way to get the door open so I can pop the hood???

:welcome:

If you look at page 257 in your Owners manual (Emergency unlocking of the luggage compartment lid) you will find some useful information.

If you do not have an owners manual you can download one here

Thanks but I have done that before with my last Porsche, this time though the door will not unlock to get to the fuse block. When I use the key in the lock it will not unlock the door... So I can't get in to jump from the fuse block, does that make sense?

Posted

The last time I found myself with a dead battery I try to power up through the fuse block - i just manually opened the luggage compartment using the cable "hidden" in front of the passenger side front wheel/fender liner (the cable is behind the bumper). Once opened I changed the battery and was back in business.  Hope that helps.

That makes sense, my wheel lug tool is in the glove box, locked in the car. Can you get the inner wheel well out with the tire on?

One of the best ways to solve this is from the back of the car.  Under the left rear light (looking from the back) there is a wire with a loop that when pulled will open the engine cover. You need a coat hanger wire about 12" long with a hook bent at one end. Widen the gap between the underside of the rear light and the fender with a plastic wedge and fish around under the light and pull the wire out.  When it's out press down on the engine lid and pull the wire to release that catch. You now have access to the engine cover.

You can now put jump leads onto the two jump start points in the engine compartment.  The earth (-ve) is on the air filter housing near the engine catch.  The positive (+ve) is with a cover just about the power steering pump.

Energising the jump start points will energise the electrical system and should allow the central locking to work by inserting your key into the lock mechanism on the door.

As the previous poster says you can use the wire under the front fender to open the luggage lid, but it is very fiddly to get at this.

i typically remove the wheel to get at the fender liner - it can be a tight fit - I'd be that you can do it though - once the liner is off you will have room to work

Thanks all, My Cayman S never had the battery go completely dead so the car always unlocked. Just ordered another CTek since it went with my Cayman... I'm gonna try the rear deck lid cable first, then the front if I can get to it. Should the key unlock the fire with no power?

I thought with my heated garage I wouldn't need to trickle charge it with what o was told a new battery, oh well!!post-68564-141989304457_thumb.jpg

A few pics that might help

The first pic shows the hooked end.

The next shows the type of wedge - you could use cardboard or timber.

There is a pic that shows the approx. insertion point.

The final pic show the wire with the light cluster removed.

Having opened the lid jump leads can applied to the jump posts. These are shown in the

following pics. The earth jump post (black lead) is near the catch. When the lid is opened

the alarm will go off if there any life left in the alarm battery.post-86549-0-39296500-1419938459_thumb.jpost-86549-0-74709400-1419938494_thumb.j

Thanks for the help, ended up getting the rear open easily with the instructions, but found out that for the 997, Porsche took away the jump points in the engine bay.

So I took out the front wheel well which was pretty easy with the tire still on, so I moved the liner down after unscrewing it and was able to Pop the trunk easily.

Hooked up my charger and all came back to life. So if you have a 997 then remove the front drivers wheel well lower front and you can access the cable release for the trunk.

Thanks all for your help, I'm back in business

I didn't know that the 997 does not have jump start points in the engine compartment. Sorry if I Ied you on a chase.

It's easy to get to the front release cable once you know where it is. It's a good reason for not parking the car with the right front wheel arch close to a wall.  Unlikely for a RHD car, but more than possible for a LHD vehicle.

No problem Hilux, I thought I was crazy cause I couldn't find them after a few forum searches it was clear Porsche was try to make the job harder for me :-) you are right on the front release, easy even with the tire on. Thanks again

I'm confused about which foot well. Did you mean to say the passenger wheel well (right front)? Please clarify.

It is the Drivers Side lower wheel well in the front of the tire for US cars and I assume all left-hand drive cars

This is true for 997 LHD, 996 LHD is on the opposite side, this can confuse.

This happened to me last time and someone came and opened it for me with somwkind of tool.

I think that this suck big time that u can't open the door just with the key after ur battery went flat.
