DIY: 997.1 Steering Wheel Swap to 997.2 Sport Design

Here's a little PDF file explaining how I swapped my old Multi-Function steering wheel with the newer 997.2 Sport Design wheel. Much thanks to Carl Mott at Isringhausen for the help and the sweet price! Enjoy Steering Wheel.pdf

Sorry for resurrecting this thread but need some feedback after I installed a 997.2 Sport Design steering wheel into my 997.1 Turbo.  I had it programmed for a multifunctional steering wheel for the horn to work.  Good news is that the horn works now; however, when I turn off the car, the horn beeps once. Anybody run into this challenge and have a solution?

Are you absolutely sure the single beep is an alarm fault elsewhere? If you scan the car with a Porsche specific scan tool it would identify the alarm fault location.

The beep didn't exist before until the PWIS programming for a multifunction wheel.  Not sure if the tech triggered something else? Alarm related?

thanks for the welcome

I would rescan the car looking at the alarm system before going further.  The most common cause of "beep" related complaints we see are alarm faults, usually the radio ground, console, or glove box.  If the scan shows no alarm activity, then you need to revisit the wheel installation.  You need to eliminate the alarm first or you could end up chasing your tail here.

Are you sure that a conversion to the multifunction steering wheel did not require changing other steering column components to match? A quick scan of the part list says that the factory conversion kit comes with the wiring harness, control unit, and switches.

And a quick question:  Does the car have a PDK gear box?

This is a 6MT. Based on my research , should be a direct swap with a coding for multi function steering wheel.  The other piece I'm not sure about is upgrading the steering control module but folks with an existing multi function steering wheel didn't have to do anything after the swap.  Is this normal where the steering column switch does t show a part number ?

Not really sure about the switch part number; I can honestly say I have not seen one without a number, but then I have only see a few of them total.  But I am still focused on the point that when you purchase the wheel as a kit from Porsche, it comes with a switch, which may mean the switch itself is different for the multifunction wheel.  You would need to talks to a Porsche parts department to confirm or deny that.
