These are both upgraded parts which should reduce failures.

Hi guys,

 

I need the two pulleys, #12 & 15 here http://www.autoatlanta.com/porsche-parts/hardparts.php?dir=996-99-05&section=101-10

 

According to that site, the correct pulleys for my car are 99710211900 and 99710211800 but they both are 997 part numbers and the pulleys also look different in structure.

 

Do you know what are the correct part numbers for my car?

Your car should be an M480 car (six speed manual), and if it is, the 997 numbers should be correct.

Thanks Loren and John! So the Atlanta Porsche database is correct.

 

The reason for my question was because I just tried the new Sunset online ordering site (Yay!) and per that site, those 997 numbers only fit '05-'08 Carreras.

Loren's observation is correct, the Porsche system shows the updated 997 numbers.  Perhaps Sunset is still playing catch up with their online listings.

Yeah but when I typed in the rollers with 997 numbers, the Sunset site recognized the parts but gave a warning, something like "Make sure it fits your vehicle". When I click on it, it lets me enter my car year and model but then nothing. It doesn't say if the parts will fit or not. Anyways, I've sent an email to Sunset. Will report back when I hear back from them.

Those seem so expensive for an idler pulley. Can't we source an idler pulley from another car, same size? I think I remember my idler pulleys for my mustang to be about $20 or less.

 

Well.. if the pulley comes off and damages the engine case - a replacement Porsche engine (no exchange due to case damage) is about $46,830 (without installation). I'm pretty sure the Mustang would be less than that.

Point is do you really want to risk that?

Totally get that issue but it's just an idler pulley the stand off and the mounting bolt is the same. The ID of the bearing and the OD of the pulley with offset. Just saying. It's only an idler pulley.

All 3 of my idle pulleys bearings, including item #8 of Ahsai's diagram, the tensioning roller, are getting a little 'loose' on my 150k kms 2000 C2. Is the 99710211700 # correct/applicable there as well?

Item #8 is the tensioning pulley

If your car is a Tiptronic then -- 996 102 117 57 -- US MSRP $104.26

If your car is a 6-speed then -- 997 102 117 00 -- US MSRP $104.26

Anyone has the toque spec for the 3 pulleys?

 

I ended up getting all 3 of them (997...700, 800, 900) and I can confirm that they fit well and they are made of composite material as opposed to metal for the stock ones. They are indeed MUCH lighter!

Upper idler (M10X145) 34 ft. lb.

Lower idler (M8X55) 17 ft. lb.

Spring loaded tensioner (M10X30) 7.5 ft. lb.

 

If you are reusing the original bolts, use Loctite 270 on them and the factory bolts were originally microencapsulated with a thread locker.
