At Sunset Porsche (board sponsor) or dealership, nut and bolt together costs almost nothing.

999 073 143 01 Oval headed screw -- US MSRP $0.72 each

You will also likely need the rubber encased nut that it screws into: 999 500 092 00 Nut -- US MSRP $4.52 each

It usually falls out or gets stripped from over tightening.

On all my plastic covers I use a S.S. fender washer to better distribute the load of the bolt head over the plastic.  Your screw here is a Torx head bolt.

One more part # question Loren. How about a 10mm battery terminal nut and bolt?

Those are common parts you can find at almost any good auto parts store. Besides Porsche will only sell you the whole cable.

One of the easiest ways to repair this captive nut is with a product called SuGru. It is a rubber product that can be formed into any shape which then retains that shape when cured.

I repaired this item with Sugru. I threaded a bolt from the top which I had lightly greased into a nut from the bottom.  I then encased the bolt and nut with Sugru pressing it into the hole, forming a mushroom head on top above the metal and a blob below around the thread.  I then allowed it to set overnight.

The result was a 100% success as a replacement part.

Sugru is great stuff.  Look it up on the web.

Thanks Hilux for the Sugru hint.

Wow! That stuff seems to be absolutely nothing short of miraculous. Good on that young British woman who came up with this bright idea.

Available in N.Amer out of Michigan.

I'll be sure to put in an order this evening.
