I have a 2001 porsche C4 with a factory radio/cass player and really hate the it. I am looking at upgrading to an aftermarket unit. I really like the Eclipse product as i have one on my ML 430, it is AVN 2454. There is a new one in the market AVN 5495 with hard drive. Has anyone done a double din size receiver on a 911? I was thinking of rearranging the climate controls transplanting it to the slot for the Hi-Fi controls below the cassette holders so that I will have a space enough for the double din. I do not know if it is doable but I do not want to buy the eclipse and then have problem installing it so if anyone knows any information on this, thanks in advance.

The units in the console are interchangeable. Look at a 996 or 986 with PCM. It is a double DIN unit. The climate control is moved around to make it fit.

Good Luck,

I am not the stereo guy. But when you remove the a/c display and radio you will see a cross bar that separates the 2 units.

This cross bar is gone with the PCM trim.

Has anyone successfully installed a Double DIN unit? If so, what it a straight bolt-in job or did you have to do some changes? The opening on the top for the HVAC system looks taller than a standard DIN opening. Am I correct?

Anybody know the part number for this bit?? Are there any other Porsche parts required to install a double-din unit in an '02 (Non-MOST) 996 with Bose and Changer? I'd like to install the Kenwood display.

Thanks!

Andy
