Hi all,

 

After tracking everything else I've got, I'm finally taking the Porsche ('99 Boxster) to the track (Laguna Seca)!  Until now it's just been my daily driver, but I've decided to make it a little more track focused.  This weekend I'm changing the steering wheel (smaller diameter, three-spoke), fitting a B&M short shifter with EVO ShiftLink, getting new Falken 615K tires (I get them through a sponsor, so extremely well priced, although I know not the absolute best when they heat up), and most of all, installing new PSS9's.  My questions are around the PSS9's...  I've looked around the forum for some posts on this, but nothing definitive..  Basically the questions I have are:

 

1)  What else should I install this weekend, considering the car is 15 years old?  I'm thinking strut top plates...  Anything else?

2)  To get it properly aligned and corner balanced, will I need the adustable drop links and adjustable rear toe links?

3)  Anything else to do?

 

I don't want to spend thousands on adjustable control arms, etc, right now though..  The car is going to be dual-purpose (daily driven, spirited mountain, and occassional track - mainly Laguna Seca, Thunderhill, Streets of Willow, Sonoma Raceway and Buttonwillow.

While i appreciate the desire to go faster the stock boxster will take you, i think you may want to consider parts to keep the car on the track, along with the go-fast parts.

 

Scan the boxster spec boards for what they are allowed to do and what often breaks.

 

My off the top of head suggestions would be:

 

New radiator fill cap.  The stock ones are old and replaced by newer units.  I recently lost a track day due to the $14 part.

Larger oil cooler from boxster S

X51 oil pan

Flush your brake fluid with motul.

Might as well do stainless brake lines while there.

Hi TJ,

 

Good suggestions.  I did not include it, but the brakes and fluid are being changed this weekend too (Motul RBF600, pads are still undecided, but leaning towards EBC right now).  I already have the stainless brake lines on there.

 

I'll definitely look at the new radiator fill cap.  Not sure I have enough time to get the 3rd radiator and larger oil cooler on there for this trip, but I will take a look at it.

 

Any suggestions on the best geometry specs?  I have a Porsche specialist doing the actual corner balancing and alignment, but I'd like to compare what they suggest versus the general consensus here.
