Homelink programming without remote control

I have a Homelink receiver device to turn my garage lights on and off.  My other cars (Jeep, Acura) allow me to program its built-in Homelink transmitter by using the "install" function of the receiver in conjunction with the "learn" capability of the Homelink transmitters,  It works well.  But I find that it seems like the only way to program the Homelink button on my Boxster is to have it "learn" the transmitter codes from a portable remote control.  Trouble is, my Homelink receiver has no remote control, and I can't seem to locate any universal or similar remote control that activates a Homelink receiver.  My questions are:

 

1.  Is there any way to program the Boxster Homelink transmitter without using a remote control?

2.  Does anyone know where such a remote control for a Homelink receiver can be purchased?

3.  Has anyone else run into this problem and found a solution?

Not that I am aware of, I would contact Homelink to see if they can help.

I tried contacting Homelink but they are completely useless.  They keep talking about my garage door opener, regardless of how many times I tell them that it is a light switch.  They told me to contact my car dealer, I guess because they have no idea what to tell me.

 

Has anyone else had this problem with no hand-held remote to use to set the Homelink transceiver??

Porsche had a manual section on setting the Homelink system, which requires the use of a handheld remote:  http://www.porscheownersmanuals.com/2012-911-carrera/6/192/

 

"Hold the original remote control approx. 12 in. (30 cm) away from the marked position (illustration) and press and hold the transmit button (for more than approx. 1 minute in some cases) until the vehicle's direction indicator lights flash on and off three times or the indicator light A on the overhead operating console starts flashing quickly."

 

I know of no other way to set it.  I'd suggest buying the cheapest replacement remote for your brand of opener and get on the manual's instruction routine.

I tried this, but there are not hand-held remotes available for the Homelink device.  I have searched far and wide, and there is none.  So I guess I am not going to be able to use the device in the car.
