Hi All,

This is my first post so please be gentle on me.

After 7 years of BMW X5 V8s I've bought myself a 2005 Cayenne S and so far am very happy with it apart from some little issues, most of which I've managed to fix. I've replaced the boot gas struts, foot brake gas strut, faulty park sensor and headlight bulb (easy bits). Not sure what to do with the PCM at this stage though...it has a mind of its own and has got worse since a software update for new maps (this will be a post for another day).

The problem I have at the moment which I can't seem to get to the bottom of is when I go to adjust the drivers mirror nothing happens when I move the switch up or down, but when I move the switch left or right it moves the mirror up and down! I've replaced both the motor and the switch and nether have made any difference. The wiring at both ends seems fine. Would my next step be to remove the door card and check the wiring in there?? If so is this a big job or just timely??

Any thoughts????

Thanks :-)

The mirror adjust switch feeds into a door control unit which is located behind the door panel.

Sounds like the control unit may be faulty or someone has previously played with the wiring inside.

Does the passenger mirror behave properly when moving the switch?

I had wondered if the whole drivers mirror had been replaced at sometime as the glass is different to the passengers as is the mirror motor. So it could be that the wring has been fiddled with. The mirror still heats and folds in, its just the movement that's odd.

The passengers mirror works fine in all ways.

Will remove the door panel and have a look to see if anything obvious jumps out.

Thanks for the hint.

Further to this.....I took my Cayenne S to a Porsche Specialist and it turned out to be something in the on-board programming.  Along with the puddle lights in the wing mirrors not coming on and the reversing light not coming live in the towing electrics.  All of this was sorted once they plugged in their laptop and ticked some boxes....or something!
