Anyone recognize the manufacturer of this throw? I bought my 996 used and dealer says not stock. Left bushing is deteriorated as you can see making it very hard to shift to 2nd, 4th, etc. How do I get he stem out in order to get to the bushing. I removed the nuts but as you can see the stem is firmly in place. Thanks for your thoughts.

i just need to get the white bushing/washer in bottom left picture out and replace it, i don't think i need to remove everything? as you can see its deteriorated. i just can't figure out how to get the stem out where i removed the nuts?

I see now. I tried the same before briefly and found the threaded stud somehow locks in place even after both nuts are removed. I'm also curious to know if the stud can be removed.

I believe that threaded stud is press into the shifter handle while it sits inside the blue aluminum central housing. You might want to contact B&M and see if they can replace the bushing or even the entire shifter. I don't think this is going to be a DIY project.

Yes, it looks like the nuts act as compression of some sort and not to hold the threaded stem in place. i removed the nuts and the lack of compression actually lets the throw work now. I'll contact B&M and see if I can get a new unit... I do not think I can get to the problem as it looks like its manufactured into the unit. I'll post here when i find out but for now i'm ok!

From the OP's 1sth thread, interestingly, I find the following sentence might apply to me as well:" Left bushing is deteriorated as you can see making it very hard to shift to 2nd, 4th, etc.".

I drive an '00 C2, 6-sp. Although my shifter is stock, my 2nd and 4th are harder to upshift (notchy, especially so when cold) than the other gears. 1st, 3rd, 5th and 6th are very smooth. On the other hand, downshifting into 2nd and 4th is no problem at all and very smooth.

Could I have the same issue with my stock shifter as the OP; ie, worn-out shifter left bushings?

Most likely not because your stock shifter does not even have that washer. The blue part of the OP's shifter (metal) is made of plastic in your stock shifter. Also, to get in 4th gear, you just pull the stick straight toward the rear and there's no tension in the left-right direction so even if you had a washer, that washer won't hinder you anyway.

It's possible though your stock shifter is worn out and needs replacement though. You need to remove the center console to check that and the cable connections. Also, have you replaced the transmission fluid or it's still stock?

Oh you should also inspect under the car where the shift cables hook onto the transmission. A lot of times the cables are knocked out from their brackets (or the brackets can no longer hold the cables firmly), which doesn't help smooth shifting.

In May 2013, I did replace my transmission oil (Car purchased in Apr 2012) and it did improve the shifts slightly but not enough to get rid of this nagging issue.

The shifting is quite acceptable, but one has to give it a little pause at lower RPM before engaging into 2nd or 4th. At higher RPM, it is smoother shifting it seems but, in traffic, one can't always enjoy this high RPM pleasure.

At my next oil change in a month or so, I will look at the cables as you wisely suggest.
