My car is a 2003 Boxster and I am the original owner.

I love everything about the car except for the poorly designed electronics in the key fob. I have tried just about everything over the past ten years (elongated antenna, reverse polarity, dealer intervention, new fobs, many new batteries, voodoo chants and on and on). The plain simple truth is that the key fob activated locking/unlocking system just does not work or, for the few times that it does work, it operates inconsistently. As a by the way, the system on my wife's 2005 Honda is tremendously superior...it will lock/unlock from a distance of over 20 yards, will always operate with a single press of a button and has never required new batteries.

So.... my key fobs have failed my for the last time and I have decided that they won. I will now exclusively open and lock the car using (OMG...wait for it) the key. It is amazingly simple technology, you just insert the key in the door and twist. But, I did have to make a few small changes to the car...I unplugged the car theft horn and removed the plastic clip/ferrule from the gas door.

Gee, I feel better now

So your post was to let everyone know that a key works to lock/unlock your car? I'll have to try that on mine...... Do you have a step by step with pics?
