Hi

I have got a 996 convertible 1998. After connecting the battery only the code of the PCM worked. The code of the navigation system doesn't work anymore. I got the code several years ago from the local Porsche dealer. I didn't change the system. Today the Porsche dealer tried to start it but wasn't succesful. He just came up with the same code I had already.

I had several trys and also disconnected the battery again. Has anybody heard of such a problem?

I hope I described the problem understandable, because currently I am not very used to English.

Best regards from Germany

had the same problem, replaced it with a Kenwood unit. Missing the Porsche data but nav, blue tooth, back up video and radio works now.

Thanks for replying. To be honest, I am searching for a cheap solution, because I want to sell the car. Therefore I had the hope that someone has an idea or a trick to repair the old one.

Check the DVD drive's cable in the trunk. These have been known to come loose killing just the Nav function as in your case. Also remove and then replace the disc. Check it to make sure it is OK. If you park a lot in the sun over time it may self destruct. Under the label is the vapor deposited aluminum layer which has to be intact for the drive to read the disc. Make sure this is OK by holding the disc up to a light looking through it. Any defects will be obvious. If the disc is ruined you will need to replace it. Much cheaper than installing a new system.
