hi, I have a customers 997 C4 GTS with 6MT. Cars clocked only 3000 miles. Last evening had a problem with it, i put the car in 1st gear or in any gear incl. reverse, car wont move at all. Clutch pedal seems to be fine as it comes back to its final position and i can change gears with ease like before. I am hinting at pressure plate or maybe changing complete clutch kit. Had a similar problem with it at 1800 miles and found out that flywheel had burned (all black). Installed a new lightweight single mass flywheel with the stock clutch, Seemed perfectly ok all this while and boom again the same has happened. Unfortunately i wasn't driving it and my customer is not too sure if he heard any noises, he is not able to explain properly. Haven't opened the transmission yet. i will next week, but in the meantime would like to know if any of you have had similar problem with the 6 speed manual???

This probably totally off the wall, but a guy racing a Cayman at the 48 Hours of Sebring a couple weeks ago had a similar issue. It turned out to be a broken rear axle. There are several videos of it happening on Rennlist. His car just lost drive. Your issue may be totally different especially given it happened before and it was due the faulty flywheel. It might be worth a look though prior to opening up the transmission.

Single mass flywheels are dangerous to use in these cars. They do not adequately cushion the drive train and stuff like crank shafts break. You obviously have a broken drive train somewhere and it should be easy to spot on a lift. The crank is ok as the engine runs. If the drive shaft does not spin then it is a clutch/transmission problem. If the drive shafts spin but the wheels do not then it is a rear end problem. Get a stock dual mass flywheel for the car.
