I'm not especially mechanically inclined....

i found two boxsters i'm looking at both 2001...

#1 has 85k, clean carfax, one owner... slight ticking can be heard through passenger air intake...

#2 has 120k clean carfax, has CEL returning a code for "misfire on Cyl6", asking 6600...

both seem to drive fine.. good pickup, etc....

would that CEL be a dealbreaker? i'm thinking the less expensive one leaves room for maintenance off the bat...

ya figure if the IMS was going to fail.. it would have already.....

opinons?

"There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Porsche!" - so the saying goes.

LIke Loren says, find a respected independent Porsche shop and spend a few $ on a PPI. Those folks will know what to look for and will advise you on the risks involved with each of those vehicles.

Good Luck!

definitely the way to go! and you may as well build a relationship with your local indy. and if he/she is the one that does the PPI, they may treat you a little differently moving forward ;-)

Agree with the PPI per the above.

From my experience ... I had a misfire code on cyclinders 1 and 6, within 3 weeks of buying my boxster, I was new to Porsche ownership and thought how much is this going to be! Had my local Indy take a look, needed two new coilpacks, so he chucked them on (beru brand) circa £35ea and two new plugs as well, circa £7ea. With 2hrs labour charge (which I've since learnt is quite a lot of time for this job, but he fixed it the same day I had the issue and jumped me up the queue) so wasn't overly fussed as I knew I could claim it back from the seller. Not sure if the costs are similar over there or if you'd do it yourself assuming it is the same issue as mine that is.
